San Clemente, with a population of 50,000 residents, is a unique beach town built on hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The city offers 20 acres of sand beach and a 1,200-foot long fishing pier with commanding views of coastal bluff and hills. There is a Bait & Tackle Shop at the end of the pier and a full service restaurant and bar at the base. Umbrella, surfboard and body board rentals are available within easy walking distance and food concessions are open on a seasonal basis at popular North Beach, "T" Street Beach and Calafia Beach Park. One of the most popular events is the San Clemente Ocean Festival, which is held at the base of the pier on the third weekend in July. San Clemente is located on the Pacific Ocean and is bordered by Camp Pendleton Marine Base on the South, Cleveland National Forest on the East and San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point on the North. Interstate 5 passes directly through the city making it easily accessible. The city has three State Parks: San Clemente State Park is located on the bluffs over looking San Clemente State Beach and is one of the most popular State Parks on the coast. San Mateo State Park, roughly one mile inland at the southern end of San Clemente, is the city’s newest park with bike/walking trails to the beach. San Onofre State Park is three miles south of San Clemente and offers camping along the historic old Pacific Coast Highway. There are a number of short but steep trails that lead to some of Orange County’s most desolate and beautiful beaches. San Clemente offers some of the finest year-round surfing in California. Whether it's famous spots like San Onofre, Trestles or Doheny or local secret spots, there is always a wave to be found in San Clemente. The city has 4 major golf courses consisting of the San Clemente City Golf Course (one of the oldest and most popular courses offering excellent greens and ocean views), Shorecliffs, Talega (the newest course inspired by Fred Couples), and Pacific Country Club (private country club located in the backcountry featuring steep rolling terrain).
